Default I'm losing interest.

I hate to say it, but I'm losing interest in this game.

Nearly my entire guild has switched to World of Warcraft, and I think I know why. In the recent weeks I have been playing Guild Wars, a game I used to love so very much, a game I preordered so that I could play the beta for those 3 precious days the beta weekend gave me (I even woke up at 5 in the morning each day to play before school), the community seems to be getting worse and worse.

Back in the beta and about a month after release, the GW community was amazing. Everyone was intelligent, respectful, and in general a good player. During that time, I had some of the most amazing gaming experiences I have ever had, especially during HoH, guild matches, and some of the later missions and explorable areas.

Lately though, I have noticed players getting stupider every day. I have been unable to complete Thunderhead Keep after over 20 tries, because someone always quits. Every single time. And then the whiners are like "ZOMG HE QUIT WE CANT DO THE MISSION NOW!!!!!!?!?!?!1" and leave. Then everyone else gets pissed off and leaves, leaving me as the only one left. Half the time the person that quits is a monk. This is infuriating beyond belief. Shoot, even my Warrior/Monk who is currently at Quarrel Falls, has difficulty finding a party because despite my whispering at players who request tanks, they hardly ever respond. It's crazy.

What makes this most depressing is that this isn't even the game's fault. GW is an incredibly made game, with excellent mission design and combat. It's the fault of these idiots who see "OMG LOL NO MONTHLY FEE" and come in and kill it.

Some advice: Put the game down for a bit, play something else fun for a while, then come back and start playing again.

The community is frustrating and initially you can brush it off because it's not that big of a deal, but over time, that frustration builds and builds and eventually after trying a mission once and failing, you felt like you wasted so much time and give up completely.

So yeah, it's best to put the game down for a bit and come back to it when you actually do feel like playing.

You know I agree with you. There are so many idiots in the game lol. Not sure if they are just young kids or stupid adults, but late last night none of my guild mates were on so I decided to play with a pick up group just for the xp.

We were in Yaks and went out on some mission w/henchies and as soon as we got around the corner, we were ambushed and died. This guy I was playing with wanted to go back and get 'real" people which we did. So now we have 3 "real" peeps and 3 henchies, same thing happens again. Back and get more "real" people. We die even faster this time. And each time this kid doesn't want to just go on with our health down 15%. We just keep getting more "real" people.

Finally with all "real" peeps everyone dies except for me, and while I was running around trying to stay alive, they all left and abandoned the mission. It was actually quite funny.

I think you're best bet is to find a decent guild. At least that way you know what type of people you're playing with.

And on another note: The community is just as bad in WoW.

Yeah the community sucks in nearly everygame. Theres no avoiding it. Just find some good players and guildmates and stick with them. I'm sure people have tried to help and encourage a good community, but we have all seen, thats usually answered by noobs and morons spamming your messages away. Better to just ignore it than to get frustrated with it.

To the OP: and you/your guildies are moving to WoW for those reasons?

You're gonna regret it. Say hello to the land of "I?m so l337 when I pwn newbs in the earlier areas with my Ub3r items!!!!1111!!! muwahahahaha!!!11111!!! oopss...mom's yelling, dinner time, later you suxorz".

World of No Friends is built on sheer frustration and on 16 yrs old kiddies who grind all day and brag about their items.

I do agree though, every community has its darker side.

That is exactly what people need to do. I reckon I play almost 50% of all my games with at least one other guildie with me, and they're always willing to re-do missions to help out fellow members.

If you're not in a good guild for this game then you are really missing out i'm afraid. Sure, you can play through with henchies, but where's the fun (or teamwork) in that?

Sturgeon's Law: 90% of everything is crap.

What's happened is that now that the shine of new has worn off, all you see is that 90%. Happens with anything, that's why you moved from that -last- game to GW.

What makes you stick with something is when you find that 10% that really works for you, enough to make it worth putting up with the other 90%. That might be GW for some, WoW for others, or for some people collecting stamps. Just gotta keep trying till you find what clicks for you.

All gaming communities are composed of complete ****wads with a small percentage of kind, helping people. Ignore the ****wads, talk to the helpfuls, and enjoy the community. The ignore list exists for a reason.

I dunno, i think im getting a little disturbed with the trend lately. I have a someone in the guild im still in, who enjoyes looking for new people to the game within pre-searing and tries to help them out and show them some things. If they seem to be reasonably intellegent, then he gives them a guild invite. The sad thing is that virtually all of these people play the game for the week or weekend and then never touch it again. There is a fairly long list of people that have come in and been cycled out to inactivity (3-4 weeks+) and it doesnt seem to be getting any better lately.

Personally, when i was looking at this game durring the preview events, i knew it was something that i could play once a week or so, depending on how active my friends were. I didnt see it as something that was on par with a "rental" game that most of the people ive seen come and go are treating it as. If most of the more casual (a guess) players toss it within a few days, im not really surrprised that some of the more devout gamers are finding it stale after a month or two.

If you play PvP at a fairly competitive lvl, you'll hardly get bored. If you play PvE mostly...huh, well...

You have to play the pve in order to get the most out of the pvp. The pvp can be rather repetitious or uninspiring at times as well though. The majority of the people ive seen come and go this way never even got as far as trying out the "normal" pvp yet.

Well, yes, skills and elite skills are worth unlocking in PvE, but mods and runes are cheaper (and easier to get) with faction points. Needless to say, GvG is a must, otherwise one would be forced to play PvE for everything.

So what does that have to do with people becomming uninterested before reaching the GvG level? Also, how does it address the issue of needing to run through the PvE, before the game becomes "fun" in your perspective?

Actually I reached the GvG lvl after finishing the game with my first char. I consider myself lucky and, frankly, PvE is ok the first time, but gets very boring the second time, not to mention the third. I got my third characte rushed everywhere. While PvP is brilliant, most of the PvE is a pale attempt at best. I like the UW/FOW concept but that's about it.

Nonetheless, I expected this to happen. I knew this game was designed for PvP and that PvE is decent at best. I can live with it, hoping for upcoming improvements and keeping in mind that, at least, I'm not paying a monthly fee to get bored, as I would if I were playing World of No Friends or Everlag 2.

There hasn't been a game created that you can't get tired of. Most of my friends have been in WoW since it started and they are all tiring of it. It doesn't matter what the game is: play it too much and risk burnout.

so i see you have met my friends

i hate to say it but this has been posted way too many times... i dont want to hear every tom, dick, and harry saying "im bored and wanted all of you to know it, i feel you may read my post and agree and move to another game... only to get bored of that one and move on again" News flash no matter what game you are playing there is always one outcome, a sad fate that every game will become boring at one time or another...

so if your bored just do what other people have already suggested and play something else for a while (im playing 3 diffrent games right now) you dont have to pay monthly, so no one is forcing you to play for hours and hours at a time
